Colour theory is the basic wheel of colours and what colours for example if you mix green with yellow then that you a lime green it is all the primary colours red, yellow, green and blue colour management is making the colours work on all devices for example i create a website using google chrome using the colours I want then I go onto a different browser and the colours are darker or lighter that is colour management been able to select colours that work together and also work on all browsers/devices. colour mode is the rub colours red yellow green blue all mixed together to make a table of colours its like the colour theory.
it is vital that certain images are compatible for the requirement given for example I create a website and I want the background to be 2000 px by 1200 px i need to find a image that will work well with my website so i need to find an image or if I can find an image I will have to design one that will fit you need to take into consideration if the background image going to me fixed or repeat and then you will to design your background image accordance to what you have chosen for example if its on repeat then you don't want to many colours or it will clash when you scroll down the page. you also need to determine what file format it going to be for example psd images don't work online so you will need to convert it to jpg, png are really the only file formats you can use when inserting images to your website.
When designing an image you need to take in consideration the file size pixel dimensions, resolution. the file size is determind by the image size the pixel dimension and the resolution pixel dimension is important when creating your image pixel dimensions is the amout of pixels on the screen for example I have an image that is 5 px by 5 px i increase that to 10 px hight and width you are increase the pixels on the screen this can effect the image because you download a image that is 250 px hight and width you increase that to 1000 px that going to lower the quality it going to make your page blurry and not very attractive you can use dimension locks on photoshop where you can lock on the image and then make it larger without effecting the quality. resolution the the quality of the image it is what I said before a picture that is 250 px has a better resolution than if you increase it to 1000px.
It is important to have accurate technical data because people will be reading your blog, website ect and if you got information that is not accurate then there going to go down the wrong wrote which will effect is lose of respect for your company and not read the rest of the data the metadata is the most important bit of data so get to double or triple checked proof read it double check on the internet and ask someone to read over it to make sure that it is accurate
It is very important to have the correct equipment before doing a project because you would be a professional and clients would be expecting the best quality of work so get a digital camera that shoots in high resolution also get programs like photoshop and illustrator to edit your photos and you will have a better chance of succeeding in your career.
The different file formats are the most common file format is jpg this is an image file that is very common because of its compatibility on every program and website and even every device the problems with jpg are its only a static image so it hard to edit on photoshop which can be a problem on a tight deadline the other file format is png this is very useful if your doing a website and you want just the image not the background because png doesn't have a background image also it is very easy to edit compared to jpeg the only problem is compatibility png isn't as compatible as jpg which can be a problem for people on a tight deadline.
You need to agree on what files you want on the product for example I'm creating a website for a client I need to make sure that they give me a background image of 2000 px so it won't effect the resolution and any other images and I will also need to take to the parties about file formats because of corruption or compatibility issues if a certain image is given.
The most popular type of hardware used for editing images is mac because of less virus on its operating system, mac is much more popular with designers / developers because of its reliability because they uploading stuff online and mac is more secure than windows. the software programs you should use are photoshop for photo editing illustrator or Inkscape for designing products.
You would use google images to source images onto your product by searching in the picture with the size and file format google images will come up with a list of images with that size and file format you may not find what you want but you are most likely to find something useful on google images compared to image based websites.
To import an image onto an editing software you go onto the program and go to file>open>go to the the file you want to import and click open then the image will be on your screen ready to use.
You May design a website background it looks good but it won't work on the website because of the size or because of the detail it looks weird on the website so you design a image that looks horrible but works really well on your website that is the problem you have as a designer you need to design a image that looks good and works well setting the background image to fixed changing the colours use colour viewing software programs to see what colours work with what are all ways to improve your product.
If you had an incompatible image you would take the image and go back onto the editing software you would keep the source file incase they want to edit it in the future and then you save it on a different file format upload it and if that doesn't work keep on trying different files and formats but don't delete the original incase this problem occurs in the future.
To produce an image the all the clients would like you would review all of their past files and images to see what colours they used what colours worked with what what patterns worked with what you would look for a trend to make sure that when you design the product all the clients like your product and ask for your assistance in the future.
Like I said above you would keep the source file because the client may want future edits you would show the client the finished product and then see what they agree and what they wanted to improve for example they like the background but they didn't like the content because you have the source file you can go and improve form where you have gone wrong on.
you need to communicate with colleagues to make sure that they agree on the ideas you have when creating an image for example i say lets use red and my college says use green then we have to come to some sort of agreement mix red and green see what colour comes up that we both agree on because if we don't all agree your colleagues work will be of a lower quality because they can't imaging what the project will be like at the end which can effect your reputation at the end.
You need to make sure that any images that you are using for a business environment arn't copyrighted because your making money from the business and if your using someone else logo or brand then you can be prosecuted so if your designing a logo for a money making business make sure that they are all done by hand and aren't outsourced.
If you were going to save the file save the source file as psd, svg, fla and then also save a backup file the file your going to use jpg,Png,swf and also archive the copies incase you lose a copy you have one as backup which is vital on a tight budget.
Copyright is the main legislation they might state that the logo stays that size and if you change the size then your copy there work and if they got a copyright then your violable for prosecution so its important to ask companies before using their products.
You may have to follow the heath and safety act if your creating images for safety signs for example for pep you can edit that picture at all because it would be a brech in heath and safety because people would not know what the sign stood for so.
You need to make sure that any images doesn't offend anyone for example you create a logo for a poilictial party you need to make sure that the image your showing dosen't offend anyone because everyone going to see it and you also don't resize certain images that won't offend people because if you do they won't be prosecuted, you will be the one prosecuted for creating offensive images.
Like I said above offending people will be the greatest challenging also copyright issues so make sure if its a touchy subject make sure you research similar designs and get ideas on how they touched on the subject also copyright research products to see what designs are already taken and after you design it get it copyright so your design can't be copied and they will check to see if your design already been produced before showing it to the public.
You may need to take a patent out before designing the product so that anyone can steal your plans and make the product in their name after the product finished you will need to have take out a copyright on your product to make sure no one copy your product and if your trading your product you will need to have a trade mark so your able to trade with other companies in that name.
you will need to keep certain images confidential because of the data protection act you can only send images if you been given their permission for example family photo website they can't give their photo to other companies because of the data protection act they can only if the customer says its ok to.
you need to follow the companies rules because its their reputation on the line and if you don't follow their rules you can lose your job you also need to use their system because of the data protection act certain data may not be allowed out the building so you will need to use their systems to do your work.
